About Kindergarten Dual Language
Welcome to Dual Language at Liberty!
Here are a few beliefs that we have. . .
-Students will learn and grow at a developmentally informed pace.
-Teachers will balance high academic expectations with the importance of nurturing the social and emotional development of all children.
-Students will have many opportunities daily to learn through play.
-Parents are provided opportunities at Liberty to learn English & Spanish.
-Students will learn to read, write, listen and speak in English & Spanish.
-Maintaining a student's native language is as important as learning a second language.
***These are just a few of our thoughts--please contact us for more information:)
This is my second year teaching Dual Language Kindergarten at Liberty
Elementary. I am the Spanish side teacher and my English teaching partner is
Luisa Palomo. Our dual language teaching assistants are Belen Guerrero and
Darcy Covert. I grew up in Omaha and attended Colorado State University and the
University of Nebraska at Omaha. I recently completed my endorsement in English
as a Second Language and will begin taking classes to earn my master’s degree
in Reading. I love teaching
at Liberty! Every day is a new adventure and I am fortunate to be able to work
with such amazing students and families.
Hello! My name is Luisa Palomo and this is my 12th year teaching Kindergarten. I teach the English side of Dual Language and my partner is Emma Dobson.
I LOVE teaching! I graduated from Creighton University in 2004. In 2006 I received my endorsement in English as a Second Language. I also completed my graduate studies at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and have my masters in Educational Administration and Supervision. I am a 2010 winner of the Buffet Award for Teaching. I was proud to represent our state as the 2012 Nebraska Teacher of the Year.
I enjoy bringing the community into my classroom. Please stop by Liberty and see the wonderful things that our students are working on!
We are fortunate to have two full time paraprofessionals as well as a reading resource teacher and many college practicum students.
